Green Mountain Apps is a small software shop in Vermont. It exists so that the apps share one contact address, one billing setup and one set of promises, instead of each one having its own slightly different story.
What we make
Free tools for the everyday stuff — lists, timers, boards, surveys, bookmarks — and a few paid products for bigger jobs. Each app does one thing, and only asks for an account when it needs somewhere to keep your data.
How they are built
Mostly Rails and Postgres, with Hotwire on the front and Sidekiq behind. A few are plain JavaScript with no server at all — the photo tools run entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your machine.
Two of them ship an MCP server as well, so an AI assistant can use the app on your behalf without a scraping hack in the middle.
A few things worth knowing
- We don’t run ads or sell data.
- You can export your data.
- If an app is retired, you get notice and an export of your data.
- We answer our own email.
The name
The Green Mountains run the length of Vermont, which is where the apps are built.
Who
The shop is run by Sean Behan, who also writes about the work — the build notes, the decisions that aged well and the ones that did not.
